Welcome to 2009. First of all let me confirm the changes made at the AGM. Simon Darracott was elected Chairman with Tim Bowles being elected Vice Chair. We have a new Saturday 2ndX1 Captain in Miles Trueman and a new Sunday Captain in Andrew Windus who will be looking after the Development League matches and any additional Sunday games that come along.
All other major officers remain the same with Richard Keates as Treasurer, Dan Taylor, Saturday 1st X1 captain, Alan Hall, 2nd X1 Sunday and Fixture secretary. Richard Lock will again be looking after our league interests. The colts will be looked after by the team headed up by Phil Corning. We also welcome Mike Pearmain onto the committee.
As you know a great deal was achieved in 2008. Both Saturday sides acquitted themselves well in their leagues, the Sunday Trust Development league proved very popular and indeed colourful (Merrow was my favourite in the kit stakes!) but most importantly the club achieved Club Mark standard. In recognition of this and his efforts for the club in "whites" and as Treasurer, Richard Keates has been elected a Life Vice President along with Martin Lewis who has supported us well over the years, as wicket keeper, captain and Fixture Secretary. More recently he spent time as President where he masterminded the Anniversary Ball and the celebrations to mark our 150th Year.
Ken Mead and Michael Eagle have both been rewarded for their contributions to the club by being elected Vice Presidents. Mike has stood down as chairman after five years in office but of course his long standing association with club goes back many years. Mike assures us that he will still be around watching and hopefully playing in some matches. He is however going to leave the rubber gloves and the tool kit at home! Ken also works tirelessly for us and will be added another cricketing skill to his CV for the coming season, so watch this space.
Work on the new gent’s toilets is nearing completion and other projects are in the pipeline. This is all geared to improve the facilities we can offer both playing and non playing members. Winter nets will start on 20th January at The Royal Grammar School. For those of you keen to make an early start please contact the club captain, colts manager or myself for further information.
We have yet to appoint a Social Secretary. If you think that you could do the job or have any ideas who might fit into the role then please let us know.
