Merrow Cricket club! - We did it

On the 12th of September our junior section held its annual awards night where we were able to congratulate our colts on some fine performances and thank our coaches and managers for what had been a very successful season. On hand to present the awards was Sharon Eyres who is the Cricket Development Manager for the Surrey Area.

Colts, family members, parents and members of the spent an enjoyable night and were able to hear a review our achievements and aspirations for the 2009 season from the colts managers and from Dan Taylor who in additional to his role as Saturday 1st team captain is also captain of our Development side. This was a first for Merrow and I know that Dan was very impressed with the response from the junior section which not only enabled colts to experience this type of cricket for the first time but saw the integration of a number of colts to the Saturday sides and indeed to hold down places in the senior side on a regular basis. The coloured kit was a great success!

Additional thanks must also go to the with The Dyer family for running the Barbeque which was ably supported by contributions from the colt’s parents and club members.

In addition to being on hand to hand out trophies and medals to the junior members Sharon was able to present the Club Mark standard to Richard Keates who accepted this award on behalf of the Club. A lot of hard work and time has been spent achieving this award and our thanks must go to Richard Keates for his efforts in setting our standards, club policies and pulling the whole thing together. This award is vital to any club that has a colts section and indeed is an on going accreditation that needs to be adhered and enhanced throughout the years to come.

Thanks must also go our coaches, team managers, who have given up their time to attend numerous courses. To our welfare officer and those members of the club who have undertaken health and safety training on behalf of the club so that we can make Merrow a safe and enjoyable place for our members to play cricket either and junior or senior levels.
